A book that directly benefits orphans
I’m excited to introduce a brand new, beautifully illustrated children’s book called Where Are My Mama and Baba?
Little One is a spunky orphan who doesn’t have time to wait around for her family to come find her. She decides to set off and search all over the Shanghai Healing Home to find them. This story is a jaunty, playful tour as she looks for her new parents.
If you are looking for a book to introduce the subject of orphans or adoption to your kids, or if you want to cultivate their awareness of the international adoption community, this book is the perfect choice. What makes it such a great choice?
1. The story is energetic and even playful, while still introducing the topics of needs and concerns of orphans and opening opportunities for important conversations about how we can fulfill our responsibilities to care for orphans.
James says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27a).
How often are we talking to our kids about and actively promoting and participating in the care of orphans? This book isn’t just for families introducing their kids to the fact that they are getting an adopted sibling—it’s for ALL families. It should be a regular, intentional part of our families’ culture to be talking about and helping the needy, and orphans are among the neediest. God loves orphans. Are we ignoring them? Get this book on your shelf and start making this a part of your family’s outreach. (Here is the link to Amazon, the place to order this beautifully illustrated paperback book right now.) * (If you live in Canada, check it out here.)
2. It is directly connected to a real place. The bright illustrations are not of imaginary places, but based on the actual location of the Shanghai Healing Home, where hundreds of children have received care and provision for necessary medical treatment as they wait for adoption. It not only gives us a beautiful introduction to the SHH, but it also directly benefits this charity.
The best part is that all of the profits from the sale of the book will go to the SHH.
This book is really a gift of love to all orphans that the SHH is serving and will serve in the future.
Aaron Gfeller has authored this book as a tribute of his deep love for these orphans. As a key member of the SHH staff for a decade, Gfeller tirelessly gets word out about this charity in extremely creative ways, from videos and posts on social media, to incredible photography, to fundraising events held in Shanghai. In all of his work, he never forgets that these kids have medical, emotional, and spiritual needs as well as the need to have fun! This book is a continuation of his and his wife’s dedication to serving orphans.
