As I drove the last few hours of highway from Nashville to Chicago on the evening of December 30, my husband and I stared at the dark road ahead of us and discussed the upcoming year. We talked about our resolutions—ways that we wanted to change direction and live better in the future. I love the fact that God has given us seasons and calendars and 24-hour days and 365-day years. All of the cyclical features of life give us several scheduled pit stops to pause and refuel and reassess our direction if necessary.
For me, one of my resolutions is to make 2023 a year when I read Proverbs every day, studying this book to get wisdom. As Proverbs 4:5-9 advises,
Get wisdom; get insight;
do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
and whatever you get, get insight.
Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;
she will honor you if you embrace her.
She will place on your head a graceful garland;
she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.
Will you join me? I plan to add some posts in the future focused on specific chapters of proverbs, as well as some resources to help us study this together this year. If you haven’t subscribed to my blog, consider doing that to find out how to use these resources in the future. (If you subscribed in my blog’s early days, please consider joining again, as I recently fixed a problem I had that was preventing subscribers. Glad to get these bugs worked out!)
Please check back for more, but above all, read this book from the Bible.
